Project Overview

McNeese State University · HHP Complex

The Health & Human Performance Complex is the epicenter of McNeese State University athletics in Lake Charles — a $45 million facility housing the Cowboys’ and Cowgirls’ basketball arena, the volleyball program, an athletic training center, classrooms, and athletic administration.

After Hurricane Laura tore through the campus in 2020 — leaving the building with standing water and torn-open ceilings — the complex went through a full interior reconstruction under general contractor The Lemoine Company. Durwood self-performed a broad interior and finish scope: framing, gypsum board, acoustical and linear metal ceilings, metal wall panels, wall coverings, and paint.

The finished spaces — the grand stair under its suspended blue-and-white sculpture, the wood-slat feature walls, the suite and club levels, and the Cowboys-branded concourses — show the level of finish the work was held to inside a high-traffic, high-visibility Division I athletics venue.
