Alabama is building the most expensive prison in US history at a cost of $1 billion!

This 1,600,000-square-foot men's prison facility will accommodate up to 4,000 inmates and will serve the entire state of Alabama. Located in Elmore County, the prison will be situated on a 300-acre site with over 50 buildings. The facility is expected to open in the summer of 2026.
